Classic case of a miss application.  Water Treatment is not plug and play!  In this picture you see corrosion and calcium build up on the back of a water softener valve!  By not doing the proper water testing and understanding the water quality to be filtered, this water softener system had no chance to succeed!

  WQA The Water Quality Association says the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's revised Lead and Copper Rule offers progress in the battle against lead in drinking water supplies across the United States. Among other things, the new rule requires testing in schools and childcare facilities while also establishing a trigger level to jumpstart lead mitigation earlier and in more communities. Significant for the water treatment and filtration industry, the new rule allows Community Water Systems serving fewer than 10,000 people and all Non-Transient Non-Community Water Systems to elect to maintain point-of-use devices certified to remove lead in place of corrosion control treatment. The EPA approved revisions to the Lead and Copper Rule at the end of 2020 and has released the pre-publication version of the text. Do Water Softeners Make Your Water Salty? Answer: NO

Sodium is a naturally occurring mineral that is found in almost everything you consume.  From apples to almonds, the water and milk we all drink, sodium is a common ingredient.  So when someone say's " Sodium is used to soften water"  : This is one of the biggest miss statement / misconceptions!  Here's why.   Calcium (Ca2+) and magnesium (Mg2+) ions that cause water hardness can be removed fairly easily by using an ion exchange procedure. Standard water softeners are cation exchange devices. Cations refer to positively charged ions dissolved in the water. Cation exchange involves the replacement of the hardness ions with a non hardness ion. Water softeners usually use sodium (Na+) as the exchange ion. Sodium ions are supplied from dissolved sodium chloride salt, also called brine. In the ion exchange process, sodium ions are used to coat an exchange medium in the softener.
